On Tennessee vs. Florida
No. 11 Tennessee took care of business in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night against the Florida Gators. For just the second time since 1990, the Volunteers beat the Gators in back-to-back home games. Tennessee beat Florida in similar fashion to how the Vols survived on the road against Oklahoma a few weeks back. Tennessee’s defense held Florida below 20 points once again and star junior tailback Dylan Sampson did what he needed to do in the second half and in overtime for the Vols to escape with a victory and move to 5-1 on the season. Still, the Tennessee passing game really struggled once again, redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava turned it over twice once again, as the highly talented QB has now coughed it up six times in three games for the Vols in SEC play.
On LSU Vs. Ole Miss
The Rebels had their chances against the Tigers, but they came up just short once again. Lane Kiffin needed this one for the Ole Miss faithful to feel good about their CFP chances. Now, the Rebels have two losses with Georgia still on the schedule. However, folks should keep a fair perspective with Kiffin. He has won a whole lot in Oxford and has elevated the program to one of the SEC’s best over the last three seasons. Similar to Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, he’s now starting to get underrated because he’s made winning a lot in a tough place to win historically look easy. Don’t be surprised if Ole Miss is 9-3 or 10-2 at the end of the season with the CFP very much in play.
On Oregon Vs. Ohio State
Dan Lanning got his first gigantic win as Oregon’s head football coach. Lanning came up just short twice last season against Washington. However, in Year 3 Lanning has broken through and the Ducks are for real. Oregon knocked off Ohio State and are now in the driver’s seat to win the Big Ten regular season title and potentially get a first-round bye. Dillon Gabriel had his best game yet as a Duck and this team is right there with Texas as the favorite right now atop the sport for a CFP title.
