On Tennessee vs. Oklahoma
Chase and Matt breakdown what happened for No. 5 Tennessee as the Vols took it to No. 21 Oklahoma on Saturday night in Norman. It was a huge, emotional win for head football coach Josh Heupel. The fourth-year coach at Tennessee won a national championship as the quarterback at Oklahoma in 2000, and this was his first game back as an opposing head coach. Tennessee’s defensive line stole the show as they have continued to do all season long. Indeed, the Vols are loaded up front and at linebacker with Keenan Pili and Arion Carter continuing to wreck havoc. Cornerback Jermod McCoy also played really well for the Vols. All in all, Tennessee proved to be the better team again and still didn’t have an A-plus game on offense but found a way to win. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava had some great throws in this ball game, especially to Bru McCoy and Dont’e Thornton Jr., but it was the defense again who turned out to be the story for the Vols.
On Michigan Vs. USC
Chase and Matt broke down what happened in Ann Arbor. The Michigan Wolverines ran it right at USC and won the game late. USC still fought hard and showed they are legit contenders in this conference. Head coach Lincoln Riley has definitely righted the ship at USC, and his offseason hire of D’Anton Lynn from UCLA as his new DC is paying dividends. It’s hard to beat both LSU and Michigan away from home to begin the season and he went 1-1. USC is going to continue to get better and the Wolverines had to have this one to stop the bleeding following the Texas blowout.
On Utah vs. Oklahoma State
Chase and Matt wonder if the Big 12 has any great teams this year. Utah and Oklahoma State didn’t look great and both saw their backup quarterbacks play a lot in this game. The Cowboys’ offense continues to struggle and the Utes look good, especially defensively, but not great offensively. Colorado barely survived against Baylor. Kansas State got embarrassed at BYU. UCF hasn’t played anybody yet. It’s hard to say if the Big 12 has any truly elite teams this year, but it feels like no right now.
